Safe to travel to Mexico on cruise?

My family and I are all traveling to Catalina and Baha Mexico over spring break. I've been hearing a lot of stuff about drug wars in Mexico and kidnapping tourists and stuff. I'm just really worried if it will be safe to travel to that area over spring break. I may just be paranoid, but please let me know if you know any information about this topic. Thank you!
