How to get rid of acne scars?

I'm 16 and have had acne for 3-4years now. It's not severe acne, it's mainly pimples but there are a few nodules as well, however I think that if every scar was removed it would look as if I only had a few spots. The acne scars are not deep, but discolured, I'm half-cast and the scars are brown. I want to know how to get rid of them because they are taking forever to go and now i'm getting scared that they will stop me meeting someone since I know the spots will go, but the scars I don't know.
