Perforated eardrum?

How long will it take for you to start hearing good again?why cant u smoke cigarettes too while your eardrum is busted?My eardrum is busted so I was just wondering what ya'lls experiences were.I already went to the doctor when it happened. How long before will the pain stop?thanks
