If this ever happened to me I probably wouldn't have noticed because I wouldn't be concentrating on the guys crotch. So to me it would have seemed that he just jumped out of the pool and ditched me. What did I do? I would have wondered. She's probably embarred because she thinks she did something or you noticed something embarring about her. Women are very self-concious. I would have been distant as well. So while you are thinking she noticed some changes in your anatomy - she's probably thinking you noticed something bad about her which made you run away.
