Artritis and gout, help needed?

I suffer from both.The pain can start at any time, usually at night,it starts in one joint, often the foot and moves around that particuler area moving from joint to joint.The pain in any one spot can last up to 48 hours before moving on. At the moment it's in my elbow and has been for over 2 weeks.Anybody out there who can recomend some kind of relief? The doctor has put me on Celebrex but they don't seem to do any good and enquiries on Google point to them not being too safe. Any advice apart from amputation?
